"Danza de Jalisco" was commissioned by the Festival Foundation for the "Festival of Two Worlds " at Spoleto, Italy. It was first performed there in July 1959, in the original version for chamber orchestra. The present arrangement for two pianos was prepared by the composer in 1963.
